Automating NZS 5261 Gas Certificates: From 45 Minutes to Under 3

The Challenge

Every gas installation, alteration, or repair in New Zealand requires a Certificate of Compliance under NZS 5261, confirming the work meets gas safety standards before it can be signed off by a registered gasfitter. For a busy gasfitting and plumbing company, that meant a technician finishing a job on-site, then sitting down later to manually fill in a multi-page certificate — cross-checking appliance details, pipe sizing, pressure test results, and ventilation requirements against the standard by hand.

On a typical day with 8–10 jobs, certificate paperwork was eating roughly 45 minutes per job in admin time — well over five hours a day across the team.
